FYS Thanksgiving Donation Drive Challenge!

About

Help make a difference this season through the Jaguars Give Thanks: FYS Food Drive & Creative Challenge!

Every FYS class is invited to join in supporting the General’s Store, our on-campus food pantry that serves hundreds of students each year. You and your classmates can volunteer your time in three different ways and earn points for your efforts toward civic engagement and community awareness!

You can participate in one or more of the following:

Create an Awareness Poster (5points)

Design a poster (individually or as a group) that raises awareness about food insecurity and the importance of the General’s Store. Posters can be digital or hand-made — just make sure they include creativity, facts, and a call to action!

Poster Ideas:

  • What’s on the Shelf?: Show what the General’s Store offers and what items are needed most. Use pictures or drawings of pantry shelves to inspire people to donate.
  • Jaguars Helping Jaguars: Remind everyone that the General’s Store is about students supporting each other.
  • Did You Know? Share surprising facts about student hunger and food insecurity.
Example: Did you know 1 in 3 college students struggles to afford enough food?
  • Feed the Future:

Remind others that giving today helps Jaguars succeed tomorrow. Donations and volunteering help students stay focused and graduate.

Upload a photo or scanned copy of your poster to this GivePulse page to receive your points!

2. Reflection on Food Insecurity (5points)

Write a short reflection (about 100–200words) responding to one of the prompts below. Upload it as a Word or PDF file through this GivePulse opportunity.

Reflection Prompts (choose one):

  1. How does food insecurity affect college students’ success and well-being? What surprised you most after learning about the General’s Store?
  2. Think about a time you helped or received help, how does that connect to the importance of community care on campus?
  3. What does “being a good neighbor” mean to you as a Jaguar? How can we reduce stigma around asking for help?

3. Volunteer with the General’s Store (30 points)

Get hands-on and help the General’s Store in one of two ways:

Pantry Crew: Assist with stocking shelves, sorting donations, or prepping bags for distribution.

Creative Volunteers: Join the creative side — help design pantry flyers, zines, our “Jaguar Map” of low-cost eats around town, or even our “Jaguar Jams” music & recipe collab project.
