SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Exam) Volunteer

Open Opportunity

About

Support New Beginnings APFV in Walworth County. Advocate for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence during ER/hospital visit!

What being a SANE volunteer/advocate entails:
You go through an indepth training here at the office, each volunteer would then give their availability for the following month for an "on call" schedule and send it out to the hospital as well as the volunteers so everyone is on the same page. Monday - Friday the on call hours are from 4:30pm-8:00am the following day and Saturday and Sundays are from 8:00am-8:00am (a full 24 hours).
If you are called that means a victim of either sexual assault or domestic violence is at the hospital and would like an advocate present throughout their exam. The advocates job once they get to the hospital is to be of support to the victim for the entire time they are at the hospital. Afterwards the advocate is in charge of writing up a summary of the visit and getting it to me at the Elkhorn office within 24 hours of the call unless it's a weekend then just to have it in by the following Monday or Tuesday. When they are turning in the report to me I always offer for them to sit and talk with me if they want to or need to since some calls can be very triggering.

This experience is valuable and will look great on resumes for people in health and human service fields.
