When I signed up to be a Beauty Salon Volunteer, I thought I would go in, wash a head or two and clean up after the stylist. However, when I arrived I got to serve as a hair-braider. I was given two people to style and it was right up my ally! I enjoyed the fellowship everyone had in the salon as we all worked and talked away. I’ll be back next month ready to work these hands again!

I served as a packet pick-up volunteer for the Run the Reagan event. I helped to find and hand out race bibs, safety pins and t-shirts to pre-registered guests and directed those wanting to register to the registration booth. It was fast-paced and I really enjoyed the participants and my fellow volunteer-mates. Hopefully, I’ll see everyone again next leap year!
My tuck-in calls were hit and miss, but the few people I spoke with were appreciative of me checking on them or their relatives. I have the script personalized to where it sounds far more organic and less interrogative. I will say, I do miss doing more office work. Maybe, I’ll get to alternate calling with office work in my upcoming weekly visits.
I assisted with the 4th grade Health & Safety Fair. I like that there were so many professionals who gave their time to teach the kids about medical health, bike safety, oral health, electrical safety, general health, fire safety and eye health,
I enjoyed helping with the hand sanitation booth and leading a small group through the various stations. The kids seemed to enjoy themselves and the goodies they collected along the way.
My student was completing a reading assignment in SuccessMaker when I arrived. I wanted the student to be able to finish the assignment so we completed a short story from one of the packets that the other 4th graders use. After discussing the answers to each question, I got a better idea of where my student struggled when extracting targeted concepts (This is not always easy with longer book chapters.) All in all, it was good session.
I helped with x-Ray and in-room patient assisting. I also got to help with patient chart locating and organization, and learned how to take impressions.
The Taste of Food Event was so much fun. I met some great people and the kids did a great job with their presentations and dance. I would love to come volunteer again one day.
I made it through the entire tuck-in list! Whoop! I enjoyed checking on the patients and caregivers.
We worked through a reading packet and follow-up questions. Student is writing better and extracting main ideas after reading through passages twice.
I assisted with escorting the patients to the room and minor in-room set up and message relay.
