    Community Service Experience (3000) - Section 1

I logged back onto the Smithsonian transcription website to find a new project. I found another set of documents that belong to a female astronomer/astrophysicist at Harvard in the early 1900s. Her notebooks are filled with calculations and diagrams that I don't understand, but enjoyed seeing and helping transcribe.

I decided to transcribe documents for the Smithsonian again. This time I helped type out letters from American artists who were in Paris from 1860-1930. While most of the letters are very difficult to read in full, I still found this experience enriching and rewarding. I look forward to new transcription projects offered by the Smithsonian.

I signed up to help the Smithsonian transcribe documents on their website. I wasn't sure what to expect but I thoroughly enjoyed helping out. I found documents from an astronomer in the early 1900s. Her notebooks were filled with observations of our sky and calculations she had made. I plan on continuing to help transcribe these notebooks as well as other documents available.

I went out to Morgan's Wonderland to help out with STRAPS sitting volleyball again this week. Per usual, everyone was in the competitive spirits as practice kicked off but again that makes it all the more fun. I'm glad I got to make it out to a practice before leaving for spring break but I hope to get back out there more afterwards!

I made another trip out to Morgan's Wonderland to help out with the sitting volleyball practice. This week was a more competitive week which made for a more fast paced practice. I love seeing everyone improve in the sport and it's a blast getting to know everyone on the team better!

I volunteered with the Special Olympics State Bowling tournament this weekend. I have volunteered for the Special Olympics in high school so I was really looking forward to volunteering with them again. It was so refreshing and heartwarming to see the bowling teams celebrate their wins and work together. Most everyone was so optimistic and I hope to bring this kind of energy to those around me as much as I can.

I went out to Morgan's Wonderland again this week to help out with sitting volleyball. There were fewer people who came out but we still made the best of it and managed to play 4 on 4. Even with the smaller group, we were still able to be competitive and have a good time.

I went back to STRAPS sitting volleyball practice to help out again. This week had a different vibe than the previous practices that I have been to. There were a few more volunteers than usual but they weren't as experienced in volleyball as the "core" group of volunteers and players. This made the practice move a lot slower and less competitive as usual. It was interesting to see how that had an impact on the team as a whole.

I went to the sitting volleyball practice with STRAPS sports again this week. Everyone there is so much more competitive than I expected but the atmosphere remains light hearted and fun. Being able to volunteer with this team has made me enjoy playing the sport again.

As the sitting volleyball practices kick back up after the new year, I volunteered with STRAPS to help their team. I recognized most of the players who came, but I still saw a few new faces. I always enjoy stepping in and joining the team for practice as it forces me to reflect on my own time playing volleyball and allows me to see the sport from a different perspective.
