About

Throughout Seattle, Real Change Vendors experiencing homelessness work hard selling the award-winning weekly newspaper to regular customers, tourists, and passersby. However, amid the global pandemic, foot traffic and potential customers have rapidly decreased. As a result, the income that vendors depend upon for food and groceries remains dangerously low.

With the help of incredible volunteers like you, we can ensure that
individuals experiencing homelessness during this very difficult time have reliable and consistent access to food.

How to Help: Please consider donating non-perishable food to Real Change Vendors today. Below, please find the different ways to participate in this exciting volunteer opportunity. We are seeking all non-perishable foods, including all canned foods with "pop-tops" that can be eaten without a can opener, granola bars, crackers, beef jerky or beef sticks, tuna or chicken pouches, and more! Donations may be mailed to our office personally or through the store you're ordering from. If you're local, you may also schedule a socially distant drop-off - whatever works best for you!

Start a Food Drive! Organize a food drive among friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, and more! We'll provide a list of urgently-needed items to collect, and you can do so virtually (via email, social media, etc.), in-person by safely collecting items, or both! Items can then be mailed to or dropped-off at our office.

Send Food Online! Head to our Target Wish List, or the online store of your choice, to donate items without ever leaving your computer! Our Target Wish List is automatically set up to send donations directly to our office after you've checked-out.

Shop! During your next trip to the grocery store, use the Grocery List we provide to add items to your cart for vendors. Items can then be mailed to or dropped-off at our office.

Cook! Do you live near Seattle and have a passion for cooking, or do you look forward to making meals, especially for others? Sign-up to make individual meals for vendors! We recommend dropping-off no more than 50 lunches at a time, but less is also great. Popular meals have included: sack lunches, individually wrapped burritos, or your choice of meals/sides packaged in disposable to-go containers. Meals can then be dropped-off at our office for immediate distribution.

To mail donations to our office, please send them to: Real Change, 219 1st Ave. S., Suite 220, Seattle, WA 98104

If you don't live near Seattle and would like to support vendors in your area, please consider getting involved with a street newspaper near you, including: The Denver VOICE, The Springs Echo near Denver, Mi Valedor in Mexico City, Street Roots in Oregon, and Curbside Chronicle in Tennessee!

If you would like to sign-up for any of these volunteer opportunities, or if you have any questions at all, please email volunteer@realchangenews.org

Real Change is a 501(3)(c) nonprofit and all donations are tax deductible.

More about Real Change: Founded in 1994, the Real Change Homeless Empowerment Project is an award-winning nonprofit newspaper that provides immediate employment opportunity to homeless and low-income people throughout the Pacific Northwest. Highly regarded as the leading street newspaper in North America, Real Change provides a low-barrier employment opportunity to an average of 250 homeless and low-income individuals each month while challenging the structures that create poverty. We envision a just, caring and inclusive community, where people are no longer marginalized by racism and classism and have the means to live with dignity.
