About the Conference:

This free, virtual conference on May 19, 2021 will convene academics, community organizers, scholars, and students who are interested in community organizing as a vehicle for change. In the spirit of reciprocal learning and collaboration, there will be opportunities for participants to listen to presentations from field experts, explore teaching practices and resources, and share experiences through small group conversations.

For Students:

Recognizing the crucial organizing work students do both on-campus and in the community, students are invited and encouraged to attend the full conference. However, for those with limited time, there will be a one-hour block of particular interest to students who are exploring community organizing as a future occupation.

For Academics & Career Community Organizers:

This conference will build upon the first “Students and the Future of Community Organizing” Conference, hosted by the Taubman Center at Brown’s Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs on December 7, 2020. That first event in this series focused on issues of particular interest to those who teach about community organizing in an academic setting, and was enriched by the presence of several veteran community organizers, including some who have taught in university settings. This conference will build upon the recommendations and requests of previous attendees, as well as input from current students,  in order to create a useful, educational, and inspiring conference for both students and seasoned professionals.
