Waste management is a critical and necessary function in any organization. Hauler and disposal contracts and services cost several hundred thousand dollars per year. The state of waste management at PSU and in higher education sits in the larger global waste management context, which has been turbulent over the last few years. Changes in global recycling commodities markets has not necessarily impacted PSU but the situation has inspired the Campus Sustainability Office to reexamine how waste management is done at PSU and how it could look in the future (for more information about the “green fence / national sword” , project participants are welcome to chat with Brandon, but that is not the focus of this project).
